Background
Elementary School #18 is a three-story masonry and metal stud structure with brick and metal panel veneers. The proposed school is approximately 131,000 square feet with a student capacity of 1,070 students. The proposed school site will include a playfield, paved play areas, and modular play areas. A passenger vehicle parking lot, a school bus pickup and drop off loop, and a Stafford County Public Schools Transportation Services bus parking depot are also proposed. The bus parking depot is requested to be funded as a separate project after the Elementary School is constructed.
Proposed Location
A land acquisition team made up of County and Stafford Schools staff considered sites in the southwest quadrant of the County to locate the elementary school. After considering all potential sites, the team recommended a 34.7-acre portion of Tax Map Parcel 36-37 for use. This project will be located next to the Sixth High School, approximately 0.8 miles east of Poplar Road and just north of the intersection with Warrenton Road (Route 17) and Stafford Plaza Drive. It backs to Truslow Road to the North.
Cost
The School Board's FY2025 Capital improvement Plan estimates the construction costs for ES 18 to be $75,932,336.
Analysis of Need
As Stafford County continues to grow in population, building this new elementary school will relieve overcrowding and also significantly improve quality of life and community development opportunities.
