IB, CGS, and STAT Program Due Dates

IB: The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of studies (leading to examinations) that meets the needs of highly motivated secondary students in the last two years of high school. Students who are self-motivated and high achieving may choose to enroll in one or more IB subject courses in an area of particular strength and interest, or they may enroll in the full IB Diploma Programme. Students must fill out an application before enrolling in the full IB Diploma Programme. IB is offered at Mountain View and Brooke Point High Schools. It is strongly recommended that students interested in IB visit the IB page at the MV or BP website for more information. The application is due January 8, 2021.
IB Information Night will take place virtually this year. Families may choose one session to attend (they will be identical). Both sessions will be hosted together by Theresa Gaddy (Coordinator at MVHS) and Meghan Stone (Coordinator at BPHS).

Commonwealth Governor’s School: The Commonwealth Governor’s School provides highly motivated students with a challenging, interdisciplinary program in English, science, mathematics, and social studies. Based on a school-within-a-school model, this half-day program utilizes interactive audiovisual technology, field trips, and team teaching to create a regional community of learners. Depending on their attendance zones, students who are accepted attend one of three sites: North Stafford, Stafford, or Colonial Forge High Schools. All students in SCPS may apply, regardless of high school attendance zone. Interested students should see their school’s gifted education resource teacher (Ms. Musso) at firstname.lastname@example.org. . The application is due January 8, 2021.
APPX: The Advanced Placement Program of Excellence provides highly motivated students the opportunity to create a challenging and interdisciplinary program of study geared to the student’s strengths and interests. It has been recognized and acknowledged by universities alike that AP courses challenge students with a rigorous academic focus on content knowledge, analytical reasoning skills, and disciplined study habits. The APPX programs are offered at North Stafford, Colonial Forge and Stafford High School. For more information on APPX, please contact the APPX Coordinator at one of the above high schools.
STAT: The Stafford Academy for Technology is a state-approved Governor’s STEM Academy. STAT is a four-year program of study utilizing a hands-on project based model of instruction, focused on 3 career pathways (Information Technology, Engineering & Technology, and Biomedical Science). STAT offers students the advantage of learning in a “cohort” of like-minded students throughout the four-year experience. The application is due January 29, 2021.
