Dear Families of Rising 7th and/or 12th grade students,
Vaccine requirements for rising 7th and 12th grade students were updated during the 2020 General assembly. The new requirements take effect beginning July 1, 2021. During the COVID-19 pandemic the local health departments were not able to provide a clinic to administer the vaccines for our rising 7th and 12th grade students. To assist in providing the required vaccines before the start of the 2021-2022 school year, our local health department is partnering with SCPS to provide a drive through vaccine clinic.
In order to provide the vaccine clinic, the Rappahannock Area Health District requires an estimate of the number of vaccines needed at the drive-through clinic. This clinic will take place Wednesday July 15th from 5-7:30 PM in the Colonial Forge High School bus ramp parking lot.
If you are not able to attend the drive through event our local pharmacies and your personal healthcare provider will also be able to provide your student with the required vaccines.
Students entering 7th grade are required to receive:
First dose of the Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY).
HPV vaccine. After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parent's or guardian's sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine.
Students entering 12th grade are required to receive the first dose of the Meningococcal vaccine prior to the start of school on August 9, 2021.
While the Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) is a 2-dose series of vaccines, students entering 12th grade who have received one dose of the vaccine at or after age 16 have fulfilled the requirement.
