Public Awareness Campaign

Each school year, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is required to report to the U.S. Department of Education the "Percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities." This survey is not intended to measure satisfaction with the special education program process. Rather, this survey is asking you to reflect upon your experiences during the 2018-2019 school year and respond to the following statement: My child's school helped me become involved to improve services and results for my child with a disability. The survey can be found at the following link:

To gather the 2018-2019 School Year data, the Indicator 8 parent survey will be collected through January 31, 2020. Beginning in August 2019 families who have a child with a disability receiving special education services through an IEP will receive a copy of the survey. Families having more than one child receiving special education services will receive a survey for each child.

Stafford County Public Schools engages in a public awareness campaign in to identify children or youth who may be suspected of having a developmental delay or a disability.  This includes students enrolled in private schools, who are home-schooled, who are highly mobile, migrant, or homeless, or who will be incarcerated in a regional or local jail for more than ten days.  Referrals for special education can be made by anyone concerned with a child's educational performance including a parent, teacher, community agency, or school official. Please contact the Child Find office or Department of Student Services at 540-658-6500.
