Nurse's Notes

Welcome to another school year. The clinic has been busy with activity.

I am committed to helping your student feel better so that he/she can remain at school. After an initial assessment, I can do first-aid for minor illnesses and injuries. The more serious illnesses (fever, vomiting, etc.) or injuries (fractures, head injuries, etc.) are referred to parents. It is very important that we have emergency contact numbers for your child if you cannot be reached. Below is a list of items provided by the school system to all clinics and used regularly for first-aid. If you know of a reason why these items should not be used on your student, please contact me at 658-6240.

  • Antibiotic Ointment Vinyl gloves
  • Bactine Band-aidsChloroseptic Throat Spray
  • Vaseline
  • First-Aid Cream
  • Isotonic eye wash
  • Mouthwash
  • Hand Lotion
  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Calamine Lotion
  • Saline contact solution
  • Alcohol

Please review the Stafford County Medication Policy as received in your Code of Conduct booklet. All medications (prescription and nonprescription) require a doctor and parent signature. This includes over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Advil, Tums, Lactaid, Cough Drops, etc. Medications must be brought to the clinic by a parent in the original pharmaceutical container. State Mandated Immunizations: Guardians please remember to bring a copy of any immunizations to clinic. Tdap is required after the age of 11 and documentation for a rising 7 th grader.
SCREENINGS: Vision and hearing screenings are state mandated and done on all new SCPS students and students in seventh grade. These screenings must be completed within 60 days after enrollment in school. I will start the screenings this month as well as have assistance from the Lions Club on 28 August 2019. If you do not wish your student to participate and would like to provide a screening by your family physician, please let me know.

State Mandated Immunizations:

Guardians please remember to bring a copy of any immunizations to clinic. Tdap is  required after the age of 11 and state mandated documentation for a rising 7th grader before the 1st day of school in Virginia.  I will be sending out a reminder to those who have not submitted proper documentation.

Smile Dentists will be coming to GES/AGWMS 12 November 2019 to assess a student who has returned a completed application either online: Link at or a paper application furnished on request 540-658-6240 or picked up in the Front Office AGWMS. If a paper application is completed please return to the Clinic.
